WESTBROOK – A fire at the Mill Brook Estates residential housing facility in Westbrook led to the evacuation of all residents but caused no injuries and only minor damage.

The fire was called in about 11:30 a.m. at the apartment complex at 300 East Bridge St. The building, operated by the Westbrook Housing Authority, has about 150 residents, said Gary Littlefield, fire chief in Westbrook.

The fire started in one apartment on the third floor. The building’s sprinkler system extinguished the blaze before firefighters arrived on scene, Littlefield said. About eight to nine apartments suffered some water damage. The Westbrook Housing Authority will help relocate those residents with damaged apartments, Littlefield said.

Firefighters are investigating the cause, which they believe was accidental.

Some residents were evaluated on the scene as a precaution, but no one was injured. The building has 100 rental units, which are restricted to residents 55 years and older.
